Avalon to launch new Mekong cruise ship

Avalon Angkor to sail between Ho Chi Minh City and Siem Reap from 2012...

Avalon Waterways has announced plans to launch a brand new cruise ship in Southeast Asia next year. The 40-metre 'Avalon Angkor' will become the first cruise boat to take passengers all the way from Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) to Siem Reap.

Featuring 16 staterooms, the new boat has been constructed by traditional craftsmen using brass and teak. The accommodation will include 16-square metre Avalon Deluxe Staterooms, which open to the outside with floor-to-ceiling, sliding glass doors and balconies. Other on board facilities will include a sun deck, 24-hour bar, dining room, library, massage area and fitness centre. It will feature 18 crew members.

Avalon Waterways will sail the Avalon Angkor as part of its new 14-day 'Fascinating Vietnam, Cambodia & The Mekong River' itinerary from Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok. The cruise section from HCMC to Siem Reap lasts seven days.

“With the Angkor, Avalon takes cruisers to difficult-to-reach villages, providing them a unique experience with immersive access into the diverse cultures and histories found in Vietnam and Cambodia,” said Patrick Clark, Managing Director of Avalon Waterways. “The Mekong excursions we provide cruisers, including a visit to Phnom Penh – the sight of the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and one of the Khmer Rouge Killing Fields – as well as onboard lectures, are not only eye-opening but also life-altering.”

The Avalon Angkor cruises will add to the company's existing Asian offerings, which also include three separate Yangtze River itineraries.
